US President Donald Trump on Monday morning warned of further trade consequences for countries siding with BRICS, the economic bloc consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. In a post on his social media account, Trump stated:
“I am pleased to announce that the UNITED STATES TARIFF Letters, and/or Deals, with a number of Countries from all over the World, will be delivered starting 12:00 P.M. (Eastern), Monday, July 7th.”
Shortly after, he issued a direct warning:
“Any Country joining the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an ADDITIONAL 10% Tariff. There will be NO exceptions to this policy.”
Trump's sharp stance against the BRICS economic alignment adds a fresh layer of tension to global trade dynamics. The move appears aimed at deterring other nations from forging deeper economic ties with BRICS nations, many of which are seeking to challenge the US-dominated financial system.
While details of the new tariffs are expected as letters roll out later on July 7th, the tone signals a broader geopolitical strategy to isolate perceived economic threats to US global leadership.
